Come plan your entire 2023 crocheting & knitting projects with me. Also get your FREE downloadable planner as well!
I have some lofty (for me) crocheting & knitting goals that I would like to accomplish this coming year. And that, my friends, is going to take some planning.
Most of the time, I have no rhyme or reason for my projects and just make what I want, when I want.
But that’s not working well for me anymore.
I’ve missed giving handmade gifts for important events in our family because I failed to plan. I didn’t get the patterns I had designed written and published because I failed to plan. I totally forgot about one entire WIP because I failed to plan.
You get the picture.
Plan Your 2023 Crocheting & Knitting Projects
This year is going to be different and that means I’m going to spend some time planning out the projects I want to accomplish in 2023.
I’ve also created a FREE printable worksheet for you to download and use for yourself! I hope you enjoy it!
In the 2023 Crocheting & Knitting Project Planner you will find everything you need to plan out your projects for an entire year.
Put you email address in the box and I will send over your workbook!
The first thing I am going to do is take inventory of all of my current WIPs.
Right now I have three:
- Willard the Duck (pattern coming soon)
- Kofte from Knitography Farms
- Island Stroll Pillow
I’m going to list them in my workbook and add all the pertinent information to the project pages.
One of the biggest reasons I am going to include all those details is because I made a huge mistake with one of my WIPs.
I didn’t write down what crochet hook size I was using for the Island Stroll pillow. I do know that I didn’t use the recommended crochet hook size in the pattern. But it’s going to take a little experimenting to figure that out.
But if I had used a project planner workbook I would have had all that information in one place. It would have saved me time and frustration. Ugh.
If you find that you have way more than just a handful of WIPs and you feel like your drowning in unfinished projects, check out this post:

Upcoming Important Events
One of the most important sections in the workbook is the section to write out upcoming important events.
I have missed several this past year because I failed to plan, which meant I planned to fail.
My sister-in-law is due with their first baby in just one month and I want them to have something handmade from Aunt E (that’s what my other nephews call me, isn’t that adorable?)
List each of the upcoming important events that you want to crochet or knit something for. Will you be crocheting or knitting bunnies for Easter baskets? Are you planning on making a blanket for a new baby?
Write all of those important dates down in your workbook.
Keeping track of those important dates will help when it comes time to list your projects in order of importance.
Work Backwards from Those Due Dates
One important thing to keep track of is how long it will take you to make each one of your crocheting & knitting projects and work backwards.
Once you know how long the project will approximately take to make, you can then figure out when you comfortably need to start the project to finish on time.
If you want a really cool illustration for how to calculate how long a project will take to crochet or knit check out this video from Sigoni Macaroni:

Bucket List Patterns to Crochet & Knit
Are there crochet or knit patterns that are on your bucket list?
Bucket list projects are those patterns that have been hanging around in your mind for a while and you’re ready to tackle them.
Is there a sweater that you’ve been wanting to knit for quite some time, but you’re finally ready to tackle it? Or do you have a Star Wars loving grandson that would love a C2C Graphgan for his room, but you know it’s going to take some planning to make it happen?
(BTW, do a quick Google search for C2C Star Wars Graphgan to find some amazing ones)
Do you want to tackle one or more of these projects in 2023? Record it in the Bucket List section of your workbook.
Also take note of any new skills you will need to learn to be able to complete your bucket list project!
Skills You Want to Learn
The next section in the workbook is to list any skills you want to learn this year.
Do you want to learn Tunisian crochet? Are you excited to try knitting toys?
Personally, I want to continue learning traditional Norwegian knitting. It is a skill that I have very much enjoyed studying and want to continue that into the future.
In this section include how you will learn those skills.
- Will you need purchase a book or borrow one from the library?
- Are there any YouTube video tutorials where you can learn that skill?
- Do you need to find a local or online class to help learn that skill?
To continue learning traditional Norwegian knitting I will continue attending classes through Knitography Farm. This is the third class I’ve taken from Patricia and I will keep taking them as long as she keeps teaching them.
Plan Your Crocheting & Knitting Projects Pages
The next section includes pages for putting in the important details from each project.
Essentially you’ve been brain dumping your crocheting & knitting ideas up until this point.
Now it’s time to put it into practice and get ourselves truly organized.
Each page has all the information you need to complete your project including all the pertinent details like due dates, pattern information, yarn brands and more.
The more detailed you can be, the better (and don’t forget to write down what size hook or needle you’re using, lol).
Project List in Order
Now it’s time to put those puppies in order.
Based on the due dates for your projects, how long it will take to complete them and how excited you are to work on them, place your projects in order.
Now that doesn’t mean that you can’t work on more than one project at a time.
I’m currently working on my Norwegian kofte and my Willard Duck pattern at the same time. But it helps to keep them in order of importance and to keep those due dates in the front of my mind.
If I don’t write it down, I will never remember it.
Finally, I’ve included the calendar pages.
There is one for each day of the month and is there for you to write any important information you need on them.
You might want to include things like:
- Important Due dates
- Supplies you need to purchase or order
- New patterns or ideas that come to mind
- Yarn samples
- Gauge swatches
- Doodles or sketches
This section is for anything else that comes to mind and will help you to keep your focus for that particular month.

I desperately need this – where is the “box” to put my email address? Is it the “subscribe” box. Also, I hope you’re “planning” to release your cat pattern this year as one of my goals is that project. No pressure though – we’re just getting over the holidays so take a moment to breathe! 🙂
Hello! Yes, the pink box that says “Crocheting & Knitting Journal: Send me the FREE workbook”. Put your email in the box, click subscribe and the journal will be sent to you! Hope that helps! And yes, I’m working on the cat pattern! 💞
