Mother Teresa once said, “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.”

It’s a concept that I try to remind myself of when I begin to feel the weight of the world sitting on my chest.

There’s nothing most of us can do to stop the hardship the people of Ukraine are facing.

That can be a very difficult thing to sit with, especially if you’re a sensitive person and watching humans in pain breaks your heart.

It may seem weird to think that amigurumi can help the people of Ukraine who are suffering, but hear me out.

There are things that we can do as crocheters and knitters to help amigurumi designers in Ukraine. And if we focus on the wise words of Mother Teresa while we are doing them, I believe we can make a small, but valuable difference.

Gift Tags for Amigurumi Designers in Ukraine

One way to support amigurumi designers in Ukraine is by adding these FREE little gift tags to your crocheted and knitted toys.

There are three different designs featuring the signature blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag.

I have found that they print best on 65 pound card stock. The weight of the paper is sturdy enough for a gift tag, while still being flexible enough to go through your home printer.

Purchase Patterns from Amigurumi Designers in Ukraine

One way to support amigurumi designers in Ukraine is to purchase patterns from them.

On Etsy there is a very simple way to filter the location of shops and find amigurumi patterns from designers in particular countries.

In the above video I show exactly how to do it, but here are the directions for those of you who would rather read them:

  • First go to Etsy.com
  • Next in the search bar type in “amigurumi patterns”
  • You will find a button “Filters” above the photos of the patterns
  • Click on the “Filters” button
  • Next scroll down to “Shop Location”
  • Click on “Custom”
  • Enter “Ukraine”
  • Finally click “Apply”

If you are looking specifically for crochet or knit patterns write that in your original search term like this:

  • crochet amigurumi patterns
  • knit amigurumi patterns

From there you will be able to scroll and only find shops that are located in the Ukraine.

These are some of my favorites.

Aradiya Toys

Olka is the designer behind Aradiya Toys. You can plainly see why she is such a popular amigurumi designer.

Her toys are absolutely adorable, full of whimsy and fun.

I have her Mini Kingdom: Crochet 36 Tiny Amigurumi Royals book. And I decided to make the little Bumble Bee pattern.

It whipped up super quick and I love that it has details, while still being so small. Now I want to crochet the entire kingdom!

I used Cascade Elysian to crochet the Bumble Bee

But one of the best ways to support her would be to shop right from her Etsy shop. The money she receives from individual pattern sales will go directly into her pocket.

Olka has so many gorgeous patterns to choose from.

Planet Piu is another wonderful amigurumi designer in Ukraine.

I’m so glad that by using the location filter, I’ve been able to discover new amigurumi designers that are so very talented.

Tatiana is the creative genius behind Planet Piu and her designs are absolutely adorable.

I had a hard time choosing which of her patterns to purchase, but I eventually settled on these two:

They are both so cute and totally unique.

Make Sunflowers in Support of Ukraine

Until recently I didn’t know much about Ukraine.

But what I have learned has left me feeling very inspired by their bravery. One of my favorite things I’ve learned is that the national flower of Ukraine is the sunflower.

That is my very favorite flower. I actually created a sunflower granny square bookmark a while ago and think it would be perfect to make now.

You’ll find the free pattern on my blog:
