Cute Crochet Glass Jar Cover

In this Cute Crochet Glass Jar Cover post I show you how to make this adorable little project. With some scrap yarn and an empty jar you will be crocheting these in no time. The free pattern and full video tutorial are down below.

I’m going to need an intervention soon. Since I made the first adorable crochet glass jar cover I haven’t been able to stop. They immediately turn a plain old glass jar into something unique, special and oh so cute!

My husband bought me my favorite treat last week. It is Yoplait’s new French style yogurt called, Oui.

Oui by Yoplait French Style Vanilla Yogurt

It comes in the most adorable tiny little glass jar. When I scooped out the last delicious spoonful, I knew they wouldn’t be heading into the recycling bin, but into my craft room for some upcycled storage.

LoveCrafts

I’ve known for quite some time that my button containment system has been severely lacking. I have them in a sad little box that I decorated with an off white grosgrain ribbon over twenty years ago. Time has not been good to this box, my friends. The edges are tattered and it just looks worn and dirty.

I separated my button collection into white, brown, black, and colors. Each jar has its own kind and now it’s so easy to be able to see what I have. I routinely use buttons in my crochet and knitting projects. I add them for decoration as well as closures for tiny little dresses and sweaters.

You only need a handful of supplies and a bit of time to whip up a set of these crochet glass jar covers. While I am listing the exact materials I used, play around with the hooks and yarn you already have on hand.

You also don’t need these exact yogurt jars, any glass jar will do. To make a wider cover add more rounds of double crochets + chain 2.

Flower Motif

The center motif I used for this crochet glass jar cover is from my Floral Granny Square Bookmark. You can find the free pattern for that here.

Pattern

In the above video I have demonstrated the entire process, but the written pattern is below. It is written in US crochet terms.

Round 1

  • ch 4, join with a sl st into the first ch to make a ring
  • ch 4 (acts as first dc + ch 1), dc into the ring, ch 1 repeat (8 more times) – You will have a total of 10 dc + ch 1 (includes the initial ch 4)
  • sl st to join to the top of the ch 3

Round 2

  • sl st to the ch 1 space from previous round ch 3 + 3 dc in the same space, leaving a long loop, take out hook and insert in the top of the ch 3, pull loop through (popcorn stitch) ch 2
  • 4 dc into the next ch 1 sp, leaving a long loop, take out hook and insert in the top of the first dc, pull loop through (popcorn st), ch 2
  • make 8 more popcorn st with ch 2 space between each
  • sl st to join to the top of the first ch 3

Round 3

  • sl st to the next chain sp and ch 3, dc into the same sp, ch 2,
  • 2 dc + ch 2 in each ch sp from previous round.
  • Sl st to the top of the first ch 3 sp.

Round 4

  • repeat Round 3 for each ch sp

Round 5

  • repeat Round 3 for each ch sp
  • fasten off and weave in your ends

Finishing Touches

Leave your cute crochet glass jar cover plain or add ribbon, jute, or even a contrasting color yarn. These are the steps I took to create the look you see in the photos.

  • Weave a ribbon through the chain spaces of Round 5 and tie a sweet little bow.
  • Add a little tag with writing to personalize your jar
